Proverbs 24:3-4 "By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established;
through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures."

I Love Robert!
I LOVE MY HUSBAND!!!
He shoulders the responsibility of providing for our family.
He is a man of integrity.
He knows how to grill a mean steak.
He leads our family in our schooling endeavors.
He treasures this family.
He participates in AWANA for the sake of children even though he doesn't like doing it.
He quotes movies we love.
He laughs at my jokes and loves it when I'm pleased.
He buys me flowers.
He thinks I'm an awesome cook (though he wasn't thrilled about basil on pork steak).
He makes it his business to be interested in what I am interested in.
He treats me like a queen.
He looks great in sweaters.
He makes the bed when he's the last one up.
He is diligent to safeguard our children from worldly influences too soon but doesn't completely shelter them.
He loves to learn new things and is learning to play beautiful music on his guitar.
He can fix almost anything and can make our things last way longer than they ever would if it weren't for him repairing them. When something breaks, everyone knows to take it to Dad.
He says what is necessary even when it isn't easy.
He looks for ways to help around the house and takes care of what he finds.
He is a big fan of homeschooling.
He seeks to live his life as Jesus Christ would want him to.
When I think of Robert, I think of 'balance', steadiness, faithfulness, constancy, commitment, love.
I LOVE ROBERT!!!

On to the Civil War
The Kansas study seems to lead right into learning about Civil War since Kansas became a state just a couple of months before it started and so much of what was happening in our area was directly tied to the abolitionist/pro-slavery argument. So we are plunging in and studying the Blue and the Grey and the Underground Railroad and Abraham Lincoln, etc. for awhile. And since civil war seems to be the theme for this blog, this study will fit right in!

KS Day Celebration
We gathered with our homeschool group,
Christian Home Education Association or
CHEA from 1:30 to 4:00pm yesterday
to share what the families learned
this month about Kansas.
Here are a few pictures:
Joshua related some history about 'Bat' Masterson,
famous Kansas lawman and gunslinger, known best
for whipping bad guys with his cane.
Isaac gave an exciting report about the Pony Express,
replete with actions to demonstrate the dangers
the riders faced along the routes. Very animated!
Seth told about the state symbols.
He even explained how to tell the difference
between a male and female ornate box turtle,
the state reptile. He also shared the state soil! lol
Erik gave a report on the amazing buffalo. Did you
know their horns can pierce steel? Neither did I!

Be looking for posts from the boys' presentations and activities from our homeschool gathering today. I hope to have them posted tomorrow.
Our Kansas Reports
One project we have been working on throughout
our month long study of Kansas history is
putting together a report on
our great state.
We used some materials from this great book as a guide:
Here are the finished products:
Here is a few shots of the busy workers:
Here is each boy's report individually with some selections from each:
