Our Narnia unit study has really been fun. We LOVE reading the books. Of course, there is always groaning when we have to stop reading after only 1 chapter each day! We've studied a lot of interesting vocabulary words and done crossword puzzles with them.
We done book reports on each of the 3 books we've completed so far, in a different format each time. The first 2 books, we did creative reports and all pitched in to do part of them.
This last one we just did a traditional format. This is the 1st time Isaac and Seth have had to complete a whole book report on their own. They did well. Next time, I will require more detail. But it was a great 1st go.
We have gotten some of our Bible lessons from the study. We have had a lot of good critical thinking questions to ponder and discuss. We have had some extra science, history, and grammar lessons from it. With this unit study, our spelling/vocab stuff, and grammar, English as a whole can take around 2 hours/day.
The boys are also really enjoying their independent study that they masterminded, an animal encyclopedia of their own making. They started with reptiles. They did all manner of alligator/crocodile/caiman/gharial types. Now they are on to turtles. On Fridays, they share what they learned with 'the Principal' and 'the Teacher'.
They are both doing awesome in Algebra II, Physical Science, and the Mystery of History III. I personally really enjoyed this past couple of weeks of lessons in history. Bloody Mary, Good Queen Bess, Mary, Queen of Scots, and Jeanne d'Albret. Good stuff.
I can hardly believe we only have 4 1/2 more years of homeschooling to go.
