Making Native American parfleches with picture stories

We did this activity last week.  Any time we break the paint out,
the boys are excited.  And if art includes 'rawhide',
then it is double great!

Kansas Unit Study

Kansas' Birthday is coming up on January 29th.
It will be 149 years old.
Our homeschooling group is going to have
a show-n-tell day at the end of January.
Each family is to study Kansas this month
and share their finds.
Here are some photos I took today
of the boys and their work.

Joshua

Erik

I tried to tell him he would look better smiling but, no.

Isaac

The reason he has so many pictures here is that I wanted
to make sure I got a good one of his new glasses!

Seth

The boys have really been enjoying this unit study.  We are covering Kansas Indian tribes.  This week we talked about John Brown and Bleeding Kansas; the Santa Fe Trail; the flag (obviously); the name origin and nicknames; as well as continuing in Bible study and math.  They're really looking forward to getting to the famous wild west characters later on this month.

Of course, being Lindsey Land,
a fighting break seems to be required:

Even our dog Jake had to get in on it.

And, they're at it again right now, as I type!!!

Did you realize?

Did you realize that boys can make a weapon out of ANYTHING???  Yesterday, Joshua (age 14) was eating an apple for lunch and attempted to fashion a sword out of a slice of APPLE!!!  He did admit that it wasn't successful, but the fact that he tried to make an apple sword remains.

Right now, two boys wearing cloaks are sword fighting with light-sabers in my living room.

 Erik and Jonathan

Then other boys got in on the action (OF COURSE)!

Enter Isaac and Seth

 Whew!  He didn't really die!!!
